You can customize ChatGPT's writing style and tone to create highly engaging, targeted content that resonates with your audience and amplifies your impact. If you are writing along brand guidelines, training ChatGPT on style and tone is essential!

Better alignment with your target audience: The preferences and expectations of audiences can be very different. Formal and technical language doesn’t “fit” on social media. Slang doesn’t work so well in technical documents. You get the idea. Tailor the content to meet the expectations of your audience and the platform/medium where you communicate it.

1. First, understand the tone you want. Before asking ChatGPT for a specific style of writing or tone.

2. Ask ChatGPT what your style and tone is. Use this prompt: “What is the writing style and tone of this text? [insert the text of an entire article you’ve written here]”.

3. Specify what type of content you need. ChatGPT is “smart” enough to know the difference between writing a blog post, an email, a Slack message or whatever else you need. In addition to the style and tone, also remember to specify the format.

4. Specify your desired writing style and tone. Armed with your preferred writing style, prompt and desired format, ask ChatGPT for text written with those guidelines.

ChatGPT may not always be perfect in capturing the desired style and tone. Some limitations:

1. It sometimes struggles to maintain a specific style or tone throughout the text.

2. It’s unable to accurately replicate unique or unconventional writing styles.

3. It’s sensitive to variations in how you word your prompts. Nuance matters. For example, “What are effective ways to de-stress?” and “How can I overcome stress?” are slightly different but vary enough to give different results.

4. If you live on the edgier side of things, ChatGPT may not be able to go there with you. (Erotic romance novelists, we’re talking to you.💋)

To overcome these limitations, try this:

1. Provide clear instructions: Be explicit about the desired style and tone, and include examples of phrases or sentences that illustrate your expectations.

2. Experiment with different prompt phrasings: Test various ways of conveying your desired style and tone to discover which prompts yield the best results.

3. Iterate: If the initial output doesn't meet your expectations, try changing the prompt by - you guessed it - providing more context or emphasizing the desired style and tone.

4. Provide references: If you have specific keywords (romantic, poetic, business-like) or an author in mind, mention it as a reference to help ChatGPT better understand your expectations.
